It's So Cold!

Matt went to Pittsburgh for work for a couple days this week, so it was just me and the boys. I was a bit frazzled by the time Matt got home today and was very thankful to have somebody to bring a little sanity back! It has been extremely cold this week. I did not enjoy doing Matt's typical job of snow shoveling while it was below zero outside. Other than snow shoveling, I pretty much just stayed inside so the boys and I could keep warm. But last night Caleb and I decided we couldn't take it anymore - we had to get out of the house! So, against my better "mom judgement" I bundled the boys up and off we went to the mall to have dinner in the food court and visit the pet store there (this is one of Caleb's favorite places to visit - he squeals in delight at the puppies, kittens, rabbits, lizards, mice, etc.). I realized it may have been a mistake to go out when Caleb started crying because it was so cold just on the walk from the car into the mall. But nobody got frostbite, and we got home safe. Anyway...there was one funny story from the mall outing that I have to share:

Caleb and I were sitting in the food court eating our dinner when Caleb told me, "Mommy, that girl over there doesn't have a baby." I looked around trying to figure out who he was talking about and why. Caleb continued, "She doesn't have a baby because the baby is in her belly." I looked around but still couldn't see what woman he was talking about. It soon came to my attention that he was talking about an overweight man with long hair.....and quite a bit of facial hair. Luckily we were out of earshot of this man. I explained to Caleb that this was not a woman, but a man. He did have long hair, but sometimes men have long hair, and besides, couldn't Caleb see that this man had a beard. Women don't have beards. I told Caleb that the man was just chubby. There was no baby in his belly. But Caleb insisted he was correct. He said, "No, mommy. She is chubby because there is a baby in her belly." At this point I realized that I had lost. In his eyes, this was a woman not a man, and there was definitely a baby in that belly. Nothing that I was going to say was going to convince him. How funny the things our kids say and think.
